Journey to Social Inclusion wins $1.2 million

The Sacred Heart Mission-run program supported 40 homeless Melburnians from 2009 to 2012, with three out of four remaining in stable housing a year after the program finished.

The Journey to Social Inclusion program is now set to be expanded to the city’s inner north.

The mission pledged almost $2.5 million to the program, with the state government yesterday announcing $1.2 million in funding over three years.

A review of the pilot program, which connects the homeless with housing, health and other services, found it saved the government up to $32,000 for every participant.
